On another Monday in our class, Grade 375, we had a worksheet that was due the previous day. Unlike the previous worksheet, which was worth 50 points, this one, along with the rest of the worksheets in the class, carried a weight of 100 points. The increased point value reflected the significance and complexity of the topics covered.
I couldn't help but notice an unusual pattern as I carried on grading homework for both 375 and 370. Compared to their peers in 370, the kids in 375 seemed to put more time and commitment into their work. This observation aroused my interest because 370 focuses mostly on developing the student's own skills and abilities, and the majority of the assignments are flexible and center around the student's own experiences and reflections.
Although there were still a few 375 students who put in little effort or submitted their work late, overall, the caliber of their work exceeded my expectations. It appeared that the importance and difficulty of the course drove them to submit tasks of higher caliber.
It was intriguing to see how different approaches to coursework influenced student engagement and output. The contrast between 370 and 375 highlighted the importance of course structure and assessment methods in motivating students to excel. It is interesting because Dr. Tiell expresses the importance of all the material covered in the 370 course. How these assignments in the long run will set them up for professional success in different stages. From interviewing, to having the job, to how to find a job and many more.
