Today was my first day of my mentorship with Dr. Bonnie Tiell. My first assignment of my mentorship is to review a manuscript “Global Outlook Women Senior Sport Administrators” that Dr. Tiell had written. This manuscript needed to be proofread and the citations needed to be updated from APA format to Chicago Style. During this process I learned a new formatting layout, I had never personally worked with Chicago style before this. This process took a total of 6 hours over a few days to complete. I first went through and highlighted all the citations that needed to be updated in the text so they were easier to find. Then I went through and changed the APA citation to the Chicago Style. The last step I had was updating the endnotes to correlate the correct citation with the in text citation. This process was completed and sent back to Dr. Tiell, but I had made a mistake and had to correct some of the numbers that corresponded with the different sources and citations.
Today marked the beginning of an exciting mentorship journey with Dr. Bonnie Tiell, a renowned expert in the field of sports administration. As part of my initial assignment, I was tasked with reviewing and proofreading Dr. Tiell's manuscript titled "Global Outlook Women Senior Sport Administrators." However, my responsibilities extended beyond mere proofreading; I also had to update the citations from the standard APA format to the distinctive Chicago Style.
Embarking on this task, I delved into the intricacies of Chicago Style formatting, a style I had never personally encountered before. The unfamiliarity posed a challenge, but I approached it with enthusiasm, recognizing the invaluable opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills in academic writing.
Over the course of a few days, I dedicated a total of six hours to meticulously reviewing and revising the manuscript. To streamline the citation update process, I began by methodically highlighting all the citations in the text that required modification. This preliminary step ensured that I could easily locate and address each instance.
Next, I meticulously transformed the APA citations into the appropriate Chicago Style format, paying careful attention to the specific guidelines governing citation styles. I adjusted the placement of periods, commas, and other punctuation marks to align with the requirements of Chicago Style.
The final phase of the assignment involved updating the endnotes to ensure they correctly corresponded with the in-text citations. I cross-referenced each citation to its respective source, meticulously verifying that the numbers and references were accurately synchronized.
Upon completing the task, I promptly sent the revised manuscript back to Dr. Tiell. However, upon reviewing my work, she discovered an error: several of the numbers associated with different sources and citations were incorrect. Recognizing the importance of precision in academic writing, we worked together to solve the issue and make it right. This experience not only allowed me to develop expertise in the Chicago Style citation format but also provided me with valuable insights into the meticulous nature of manuscript preparation. Working alongside Dr. Tiell has been an enlightening and instructive experience, and I look forward to further honing my skills under her expert guidance throughout this mentorship.
